What’s going on?

Well now, the truth is that not an awful lot has been going on recently. That probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Also, we’re not entirely sure what happens next as far as the band is concerned. It is most likely that the first forays back out into the world of live music will be made by members individually.

Neil may head out with an acoustic guitar and a mixture of Wino tunes, old tunes and cover versions.

Sammy will be drumming with his other project, Jimmy Regal and the Royals, including an appearance at the Red Rooster festival in August, so you should check them out as they’re a damned fine hard rockin’ blues trio.

As for us, well writing has been going on, not all of which has been howling angrily at various government representatives. Neil has also built up an extensive repertoire of acoustic cover versions. Some – distinctly unsuitable…..

Right, once we know more, you will know more. In the meantime…

Club Wino XVI

Sorry to have neglected you this last month or four. Anyway, now we’re back to let you know, we can really really shake ’em down.

Yes indeed, we have a new Wino to play the bass, Mr Andrew Gibbons. We gave him a go at the Furzedown Festival in June and he came through with the proverbial colours flying all over the place. So next we have our 16th Club Wino, which will be back at the Underbelly in Hoxton on Friday 11th October.

We’ll be joined by No Coward Soul, Garden Room and a solo former Wino, Jon Heal. Flyers and stuff will be along shortly.

Stay tuned for more rock ‘n’ roll,

The End Of An Era

Well folks, we had a fine send off for Jon the Bass at the Underbelly in Hoxton. Jon has played sublime bass with us since we started as Cardinal Wino way back in 2005. It’ll be no easy task finding someone able to fill his rock ‘n’ roll shoes.

However, you can still find him doing his low end thing all over our latest release, The World Alone. A mini album full of all sorts of lovely stuff.

Up there is what it looks like.

It’s got 7 tracks on it and it was recorded at Soup Studios, a groovy converted lightship on the Thames. It’ll be available on iTunes and Amazon and all that in just a few days and you can get an actual physical copy you can hold on to if you catch us at a gig.

CLUB WINO XV

Club Wino is back and in the words of Patti Smith
Come be our April Fool
Come we’ll beak all the rules

We’re returning to one of our favourite venues:  Zigfrid von Underbelly in Hoxton Square on Saturday 13th April
Doors 7.30pm

It’s not just any old night for your hosts – oh no,
Neil Gowans & The Winos will be launching their brand new 7 song EP ( or is that a mini album?), The World Alone and will be playing most, if not all, the tracks from the marvellous thing.

Not only that, we shall be celebrating a significant birthday of James on guitar.
And that’s not all. The gig will be the final appearance for Jon the bass who we are very sad to be losing. We are determined he will leave with the fondest memories of rocking like a very rocking thing indeed.

We will be joined on the night by our good friends The Tupelos with their inspired mix of power pop, US college rock and all kinds of Americana

So come on down Hoxton way for a marvellous night of exquisite entertainment and for only £7. A bargain.

Stay tuned for more rock ‘n’ roll,

Nice to see you, it’s been a long time,  You’re just as lovely as you used to be

We return to a favourite venue:

Zigfrid von Underbelly in Hoxton Square on Friday 12th October.

Your hosts, Neil Gowans and The Winos, with our particular brand of countrified power pop ‘n’ roll, will be joined by some very special guests.

We’re simply thrilled to welcome The Len Price 3a thunderously tuneful garage pop band from the Medway Delta. Think mod pop punky rock ‘n’ roll.

Kicking the evening off are The Bakelite Space Programme, the marvellously named rock ‘n’ roll incarnation of Jonnie & Russ, who can rustle up a hell of a din with just the two of them.

So come on down Hoxton way for a marvellous night of exquisite entertainment and for only £7. A bargain.

Musical Mystery Tour

Hello All – been a long time since we rock and rolled. Well, a couple of months. Anyway, we’re coming back to Hertford to take part in the really rather splendid Musical Mystery Tour.

We’re down to play a couple of times (so far), once at The Saracen’s Head at around 5.30pm and again at Mudlark’s Café at about 8.30pm. You never know, there may even be more. There’s even the vague possibility that Jon and Neil may do solo acoustic spots somewhere if the opportunity presents itself..

Oh yes, nearly forgot, it’s on Sunday 26th August so come along, it really is a great day out.
